The Story of the Luckyfatman

Many years ago during a rough patch in my life, I looked around to see a world of beauty being swallowed by greed and hate. This world threatened to crush me under its weight. I believe in the inherent goodness of the human spirit and I never wanted to lose sight of this. I carved a small wooden talisman from a chunk of leftover mahogany from a job as a reminder of what it means to be a good human in this world. As a mold maker, eventually it made sense to make a mold of the totem. This is how the fatman was created.  I began using scrap material left over from different pours to produce multiple molds. I started giving them away to anyone I saw that was kind or simply to those who needed a little pep in their step. As the project evolved,  I realized that I actually believed in the power of my talisman. It was no longer about a little figurine but rather about the physical reminder to be the light in the darkness. I believe in the power of belief and the Luckyfatman was a reminder of my belief in humanity. A small piece of plastic that one carries in their pocket means nothing until you associate it with the will to do and be good.  The fatman then becomes a powerful totem. Whatever your belief or religion, the Luckyfatman symbolizes the inherent goodness I hope we all see in humanity. Belief is a powerful thing. I find that a physical reminder to be a good person like a stone, or a bottle cap, or even a luckyfatman in your pocket makes a fine raft to cling to in an otherwise stormy sea. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
